Mexico's exports to the U.S. hit a record in August

Sales to the United States reached $60,637 million for the month, according to U.S. Census data, as the USMCA review approaches.

Mexico sold $60 637 million in goods to the United States in August 2026, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The figure is what the United States records as imports from Mexico. The Mexican outlets El Financiero and Excélsior reported on Oct. 6 that it is the highest monthly total in the series.

According to El Financiero, the amount is 34.2% above August 2025, and Mexico supplied 18% of everything the United States bought abroad that month. That keeps it as the top supplier to the U.S. market. Excélsior counts four straight monthly increases.

From January through August 2026, Mexican sales total $419 344 million, per the same Census table. In the other direction, the United States sold Mexico $33 656 million in August and $263 473 million so far this year.

The U.S. trade deficit with Mexico, the gap between what it buys and what it sells, was $26 981 million in August and $155 871 million over the eight months. The Census Bureau notes the figures are nominal and not seasonally adjusted.

The data arrives before bilateral talks on autos, steel and aluminum resume. According to Excélsior, those talks pick up again in October as part of the review of the USMCA, the trade agreement among the three North American countries. Banco Base, a Mexican financial analysis firm, warned in remarks the newspaper reports that sustaining such high volumes could stir discontent in the administration of President Donald Trump.

What remains to be seen is how those negotiations move over the coming weeks.
