Peso ends October at 18.80 per dollar, a second month of losses

The dollar gained 0.7270 pesos over the month, after a September in which it rose by more than a peso; in August the peso had strengthened.

Mexico's peso ended October at 18.7962 per dollar by the FIX, the benchmark rate of the country's central bank, Banco de México. On Sept. 30 the rate was 18.0692, so the dollar gained 0.7270 pesos during the month.

Banxico, as the bank is known, calculates the FIX each business day from wholesale-market trading. It is not the rate a currency exchange counter charges.

September was harder on the peso. The rate rose 1.0545 pesos between Aug. 31 (17.0147) and Sept. 30 (18.0692). August went the other way, from 17.3288 on July 31 to 17.0147. With October, the peso has now ended two straight months weaker than it began them.
