Ben Affleck's Animals hits Netflix and theaters on Oct. 9
Affleck directs and stars in the kidnapping thriller, whose cast includes Mexican actors Luis Gerardo Méndez and Adriana Paz.
Netflix releases Animals on Friday, Oct. 9, and the film will open the same day in select theaters, according to Netflix Tudum and Infobae. Neither source says which theaters will show it in Mexico.
Ben Affleck directs, co-writes and stars as Mark Kimball, a candidate for mayor of Los Angeles. His son is kidnapped, and he and his wife Abigail, played by Kerry Washington, have only a few hours to raise the ransom. The choices they make threaten to expose family secrets.
According to Infobae, the film runs 1 hour 48 minutes, and Affleck, Connor O. McIntyre and Billy Ray wrote the script. The cast includes Gillian Anderson, Steven Yeun, Adriana Paz and Luis Gerardo Méndez. Netflix and Artists Equity, the company Affleck founded with Matt Damon and Gerry Cardinale, produce it.
On Sunday, Oct. 4, Affleck presented the film to fans in Mexico City, joined by Washington, Méndez and Paz, according to Forbes México. The outlet adds that Damon attended as a surprise guest and that Affleck thanked Mexico for the welcome.
Netflix published the trailer on Sept. 15 on its Tudum site, when it was already announcing the release date.
