Kingdom Hearts Collection gets 9/10 on Switch 2, with caveats

First reviews praise 1.5+2.5 and question Birth by Sleep 0.2 and Kingdom Hearts III; the bundle is 131 GB and launches Oct. 8.

Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III] now has reviews of its Nintendo Switch 2 version, the first of them published on Oct. 5, ahead of the Oct. 8 launch. The verdict is favorable, and the disagreement centers on two of the three games in the bundle: Birth by Sleep 0.2 and Kingdom Hearts III.

The highest scores come from Nintendo Wire, which gave it 9 out of 10 and an open recommendation for anyone who owns the console, and from Loot Level Chill, also 9 out of 10, with praise for how smoothly the whole package runs.

Worthplaying gave it 8.5 out of 10. Its review, published on its site, says the console handles these games "without having to sacrifice a great deal".

Where the doubt lies

RPG Site, with no numerical score in this piece, raises the strongest objections. It recommends 1.5+2.5 on Switch 2 without reservation, with a stable 60 frames per second cap, and calls it its favorite version so far. For 0.2 and III it finds a recommendation hard if the player is bothered by very variable performance, because they have no cap and the frame rate fluctuates. It asks for an option to lock them at 30 frames.

Worthplaying describes the same pattern with numbers: most of the games at 60 frames per second, handheld and docked, while 0.2 and III move between 30 and 60, at 1080p handheld and above 1200p docked. That is a single measurement, and Digital Foundry's is still missing. Nintendo Wire agrees that 0.2 is the weakest part, with occasional drops, and finds III "fluid and consistent".

Size and price

The full bundle is 131 GB on Switch 2, according to My Nintendo News: 54.1 GB for 1.5+2.5, 26.8 GB for 2.8 and 45.2 GB for Kingdom Hearts III with Re Mind. Worthplaying estimates about 120 GB. The Square Enix store lists it from $74.99, sold complete or by game. There is no official price in Mexican pesos.

The store lists PS5 and Switch 2. My Nintendo News gives Oct. 9 as the date, while this report uses the Oct. 8 that Square Enix and Nintendo Wire give. PS5 reviews and a Metacritic or OpenCritic average with enough reviews are still missing.
