Star Wars: Galactic Racer debuts at 88 on Metacritic

Critics score it between 75 and 100 ahead of the Oct. 6 launch. They praise the tracks and the roguelite campaign, and object to the on-foot sections.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer reaches its launch with strong reviews. Metacritic averages it at 88 on PlayStation 5, 86 on Xbox Series X and 84 on PC. OpenCritic gives an 87 average and 97% of critics recommending it. Reviews have been out since Oct. 2, and the racing game launches tomorrow, Oct. 6, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows.

Fuse Games developed it and Secret Mode publishes it. Metacritic's numbers change by the hour until launch, and OpenCritic's were taken today across 20 reviews.

What each outlet scored

Eurogamer gave it 5 out of 5, GameSpot 9 out of 10 and IGN 8 out of 10. The coolest voice among the big outlets is PC Gamer, at 76 out of 100. Kotaku, TheGamer and Giant Bomb published reviews without a numeric score.

The praise converges on speed, track design and a roguelite campaign in which each race feeds a streak-based progression. Kotaku, which reviewed on PS5 Pro, sums up its verdict in a line from Zack Zwiezen: the game is "fast" and "loud," with "a ton of great tracks to learn," and "it all runs perfectly."

The complaints repeat as well: the on-foot sections feel weak and podracing carries little weight in the campaign. The scores in the table come from what OpenCritic reports.

Anyone still deciding on a purchase can check the price and PC requirements on Steam Mexico, published a few days ago. What is still missing is players' reaction: their reviews will arrive with tomorrow's launch.
