Mexico loses Mora, Chavez and Lozano for the Chile friendly
Coach Rafael Marquez ends the FIFA window with three confirmed absences, one for suspension and two for injury.
Mexico's national team will play Tuesday's friendly against Chile at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum without Gilberto Mora, Mateo Chavez or Hirving Lozano. All three have left the squad's camp, the team announced, as reported by La Razón.
Chavez, a left back at Dutch club AZ Alkmaar, is suspended after his red card in the 3-0 loss to the United States, for putting his hands on Sebastian Berhalter's face. He returns to the Netherlands.
Mora, a 17-year-old midfielder at Tijuana's Xolos, still has right ankle discomfort and will go back to his club to recover. He had already missed the match against the United States. On Oct. 3, coach Rafael Marquez ruled him out, according to Fox Sports:
"Morita still has discomfort, he won't even be on the bench."
Lozano, of MLS side LA Galaxy, left earlier: he was hurt in a training session before the match with the United States. Media outlets repeating the team's statement say tests show a left biceps femoris muscle-tendon injury. That diagnosis could not be checked with the federation or the club.
Excélsior adds that Luis Romo left Saturday's game with a muscle problem and that the coaching staff is assessing him. There is no official medical report on him.
None of the sources consulted reports replacements being called up. Mexico arrives in Los Angeles without a win under Marquez: draws with Colombia and Peru, then the loss to the United States. Chile lost 4-2 to the Americans in the same window.
Romo's condition and any call-ups before the match, the last of the October window, are still pending.
