Verstappen wins Singapore GP as Antonelli keeps title lead

The Dutchman converted pole into victory at Marina Bay; Antonelli, third, heads to Austin with a mathematical chance to clinch. Mexico's Checo Pérez was 17th.

Max Verstappen won the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Marina Bay night circuit. It was his first win there and capped a strong weekend for Red Bull: he won Saturday's sprint, started the race from pole and won it, according to Formula1.com.

Charles Leclerc of Ferrari finished second, 7.335 seconds back, and Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes was third, 24.573 behind. The two McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri and Lewis Hamilton came next. The classification is still provisional on the official site, which shows no later penalties.

Liam Lawson was seventh and Nico Hülkenberg eighth. George Russell, Antonelli's teammate, gained ten places to finish ninth. Isack Hadjar of Red Bull took the last point after starting from the pit lane and climbing twelve spots. Leclerc set the fastest lap, a 1:35.202 on lap 41 on soft tires, according to Motorsport.com.

Franco Colapinto of Alpine retired with a transmission problem, his second retirement of the weekend. Gabriel Bortoleto of Audi stopped after seven laps, and Lance Stroll of Aston Martin did not finish either. Mexico's Sergio "Checo" Pérez, driving for Cadillac, was 17th, two laps down, and scored no points.

The championship

Antonelli has 340 points and Russell 238, a gap of 102, according to the EFE news agency. The agency speaks of a mathematical chance of the title at the next race. Antonelli is 20 and, if he wins it, would be the youngest champion in history. It was Verstappen's 73rd career win and his second in a row in 2026.

The next race is the United States Grand Prix in Austin, in two weeks. None of the sources consulted says what result Antonelli needs to secure the title there, or how many points Verstappen has in the standings.
