ChatGPT launches Try On to preview clothes with a selfie
The button shows up in shopping results and saves your reference photo. OpenAI says the rollout is global but has not said which plans or stores are included.
People who shop inside ChatGPT can now see how a garment looks on them without leaving the chat. OpenAI announced the Try On feature on October 1, with a global rollout, according to TechCrunch. The button appears next to clothing and accessories in shopping results.
To use it, you take or upload a selfie, or a full-body photo, and the chatbot returns an image of you wearing the item. You can also upload a screenshot of an item from another store and ask to try it on, so the product does not have to be in ChatGPT's catalog.
The feature runs on Images 2.5, OpenAI's image model, which the company says produces more natural lighting and textures with lower latency. Alongside Try On came Favorites, a library for saving products next to the generated images.
What happens to your photo
ChatGPT keeps the reference photo for future tries. According to Yahoo Tech, you can add, replace or delete it under Settings, Personalization, Reference photos. That path could not be confirmed in OpenAI's help center, whose pages returned an access error.
It is also unclear whether the photo is used to train models or how long it is kept. None of the sources consulted say.
What is not known
OpenAI has not said which stores take part, or whether Try On is available in Mexico and on which ChatGPT plans, free or paid. There are no measurements of how faithful the image is, either: the company itself warns, according to Runtime Wire, that the preview does not guarantee size or fit and may not reflect the product or the person accurately.
Google launched a similar feature in 2025, according to TechCrunch, so OpenAI is entering ground that already existed.
