Microsoft holds its Windows and Surface event on Oct. 7
Nadella and Jensen Huang will talk local AI on the PC, but the Surface Laptop Ultra still has no price, no sale date and no word on Mexico.
For anyone planning to buy a PC or a Surface in Mexico, the Wednesday, Oct. 7 event changes nothing yet. Microsoft has not said how much the Surface Laptop Ultra will cost or whether it will be sold in the country, and its official sale date is only "later this year."
The company will present news on Windows, Surface and NVIDIA RTX Spark in San Francisco that day. RTX Spark is NVIDIA's chip for Windows that puts the processor and the graphics card on a single piece of silicon. According to Engadget, the invitation says the event is about how local AI, the kind that runs on the device itself rather than in the cloud, will shape the next stage of the PC. Speakers are Satya Nadella, Microsoft's CEO; Jensen Huang, NVIDIA's CEO; and Pavan Davuluri, executive vice president of Windows and Devices.
It starts at 10:00 a.m. Pacific, which is 11:00 a.m. in Mexico City, and Microsoft will stream it on YouTube under the title "Something new is coming from Windows." According to Windows Central, it is the first Windows and Surface event since the one for Copilot+ PCs in 2024.
What Microsoft has already published
The Surface Laptop Ultra was introduced on May 31 on the Windows blog. Microsoft describes it with a 15-inch mini-LED screen, up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR brightness, up to 128 GB of unified memory and 1 petaflop of AI compute, enough, it says, to run models of up to 120 billion parameters on the device. Those are the manufacturer's figures, and no independent tests have been published.
The product page also warns that the device has not yet been authorized by the FCC, the U.S. telecommunications regulator, and that shipping depends on that approval.
What is not confirmed
Windows Central, citing anonymous sources, expects AI agents running locally in Windows 11, controls for splitting memory between processor and graphics, and a Surface Laptop Ultra price "well above $2,000." Microsoft has not confirmed any of that or published an agenda.
Price, sale date and availability in Mexico are what the event could settle. Microsoft has not said whether it will.
