Peso ends at 17.98 per dollar as Mexican stocks fall 1.01 %
Mexico's main stock index dropped below 65 000 points after three straight gains, while the peso barely moved and stays near 18 per dollar.
The Mexican peso ended Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, at 17.9837 per U.S. dollar, according to the foreign-exchange portal of Mexico's central bank, Banxico, consulted at 17:18 Mexico City time. That is the end-of-session figure, an average of quotes taken between 13:55 and 14:05. On Tuesday it had ended at 17.9725, so the currency lost 0.0112 pesos, or 0.06 % (our calculation from the two Banxico figures), and stays near 18.
The FIX exchange rate, the reference the central bank sets at midday to settle dollar obligations, was 17.9780, compared with 17.9670 on Tuesday. Other measures differ because each uses its own cutoff time: Milenio reported 17.98, a 0.02 % loss for the peso.
The sharper drop came in stocks. The S&P/BMV IPC, the main index of the Mexican Stock Exchange, fell 1.01 % and closed at 64 653.33 points, according to El CEO. It ended a three-day winning streak and slipped back below 65 000 points. The index figure comes from two outlets that agree and was not confirmed with the exchange itself.
Among individual stocks, airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) was the worst performer, down 4.25 %, after reporting its September passenger traffic. Asur, another airport operator, fell 3.96 %. Orbia, a chemicals and building-products maker, led the gains with 5.45 %. Monex, an analysis firm, recommends "hold" on GAP shares, with a year-end target price of 480 pesos (about $26.69 at the 17.9837 close). That is the firm's recommendation, not ours.
Wall Street, bonds and oil
Wall Street closed in the red across the board. El CEO attributes the move to a jump in U.S. Treasury yields, with the ten-year note above 5.28 %, and to higher global risk aversion. A bond's yield rises when its price falls, and a high rate makes stocks less attractive.
In Mexico, the ten-year bond yielded 9.39 %, compared with 9.41 % at the previous close, according to Milenio. Oil barely moved, as the table shows.
