Peso snaps eight-week losing streak against the dollar
Banxico set the FIX rate at 18.6297 pesos per dollar on Friday, below the 18.7962 of Oct. 30, ending a run of weekly gains for the dollar.
The dollar bought fewer pesos this Friday than a week earlier for the first time in nine weeks. The FIX rate published by Mexico's central bank, known as Banxico, was 18.6297 pesos per dollar, down from 18.7962 on Oct. 30.
The FIX is a reference rate that Banxico calculates from wholesale market quotes and publishes every business day. It is used to settle dollar-denominated obligations inside Mexico. It is not a closing price: it is set in the morning, and the rate when trading ends can differ. Figures are as of 2:40 p.m. Mexico City time.
The drop was about 17 centavos per dollar.

A pricier dollar raises the cost of imports, travel and dollar-denominated debt; a dip like this week's eases those costs only slightly. Prices in stores and services are slow to reflect such swings.
One week of decline is not enough to call a change in trend.
