Gears of War: E-Day hits 20,374 concurrent players on Steam
That is nearly double the Gears 5 record on Valve's store, though the figure leaves out Xbox consoles and the Xbox app. General release is October 6.
Gears of War: E-Day reached 20,374 simultaneous players on Steam during its early access period, which began on October 1. SteamDB, a site that tracks Steam player counts, lists that number as the game's 24-hour peak and also as its all-time peak on Valve's store, based on a check made this morning.
The previous best for the series on Steam belonged to Gears 5, with 10,196 players at once, according to that game's chart on SteamDB. E-Day nearly doubles it before its general release on October 6.
Early access is open to people who bought the Premium edition or have Game Pass, Microsoft's subscription service. That means the number reflects a limited group, and only on Steam. Players on Xbox Series X|S, or on PC through the Xbox app, are not counted, so the total audience is larger, and Microsoft has not said by how much.
Steam also shows how current players rate the game: 80.76% positive reviews, out of 905 user reviews, per SteamDB. Gaming outlets reviewed the game earlier, and those scores are in our Metacritic roundup.
Insider Gaming attributes the same peak to SteamDB and notes that Steam figures do not capture the full player base. The peak could rise on October 6, when the game opens to everyone.
