Canelo-Mbilli still on for Riyadh on Oct. 31 despite U.S. alert
A U.S. mission warning of possible drone or missile attacks put the venue in doubt, but the WBC has changed neither the date nor the location.
Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez's fight against Christian Mbilli is still advertised for Oct. 31 in Riyadh, although a U.S. security alert raised doubts about the venue. As far as the sources consulted show, neither the date nor the location has changed.
The U.S. mission in Saudi Arabia warned on Oct. 5 of possible drone or missile attacks and asked U.S. citizens to follow the instructions of Saudi civil defense, according to BoxingNews. The site argued that this put the event in doubt. The same source says the World Boxing Council (WBC) is still announcing The Venue, in Riyadh, for that date, and that no alternative venue has been confirmed.
A commentator, @BarbosaBox, floated Las Vegas on Nov. 21. BoxingNews presents it as speculation, and no organizer has backed it.
Álvarez, meanwhile, remains in his training camp in Spain. He said he feels at one hundred percent physically and has added a new training method, according to El Informador, a Mexican newspaper.
The bout is for the WBC super middleweight title and streams on DAZN. It was set for Sept. 12, also in Saudi Arabia, and was postponed because Álvarez dealt with family matters that delayed his camp, according to the outlets consulted. Neither fighter has been in the ring since September 2025.
The organizers, including Turki Alalshikh, or DAZN and the WBC have yet to comment on the alert. The original text of the U.S. notice has not been published either: BoxingNews paraphrases it.
