Navarrete says knocking out Foster will be hard on Oct. 24
The Mexican champion expects an evasive rival, calls the first two rounds the key and does not rule out chasing a fourth 130-pound belt.
Emanuel "Vaquero" Navarrete thinks knocking out O'Shaquie Foster will be tough. He said so in an interview with ESPN México, ten days before their Saturday, Oct. 24 fight, in which three super featherweight belts are on the line.
The Mexican fighter called Foster "evasive" and said it will be hard for him to "give a fight." He expects the first two rounds to set the script: that is where he will learn whether the American keeps moving or plants his feet to counterpunch. He said he has a plan B and a plan C. He also clarified that his remark about "putting his face in front" was "figurative" and that he will not neglect his defense.
Asked about a possible fourth title at 130 pounds, he did not rule it out: "We'll see how things develop with Foster." He also acknowledged that hand injuries hurt his recent fights, though he said he does not use them as an excuse.
The card will take place at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, and will stream on DAZN starting at 8 p.m. Eastern, according to promoter Top Rank. Navarrete, the WBO and IBF champion, comes in at 40-2-1 with 33 knockouts. Foster, the WBC champion, is 25-3 with 12 knockouts.
Navarrete has spent almost two months in camp in San Juan Zitlaltepec, training six days a week with morning cardio, afternoon boxing and night-time conditioning, according to DAZN México.
Top Rank has not yet announced what time the main-event fighters will enter the ring.
