Sandoval defends flyweight title against Yoreme Mendoza
Mendoza stepped in after Oscar Collazo's rib injury, and the Sonoran fights Saturday in Chicago for the world title.
Ricardo "El Niño" Sandoval puts his flyweight crown on the line on Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Wintrust Arena in Chicago against Sonoran fighter Sergio "Yoreme" Mendoza. The fight is part of a card by Golden Boy Promotions and Most Valuable Promotions streaming on DAZN, according to RPC TV.
Mendoza came in as a replacement. Puerto Rico's Oscar Collazo, the original opponent, dropped off the card with a rib injury, according to the World Boxing Council. The WBC and RPC TV present the bout as Sandoval's first defense.
| Fighter | Wins | Losses | Knockouts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ricardo Sandoval | 27 | 2 | 18 |
| Sergio Mendoza | 27 | 1 | 23 |
Mendoza's only loss came in April 2026 against Thanongsak Simsri in Tokyo, according to RPC TV. He is from Hermosillo and is chasing a world title.
Both spoke to RPC TV. Sandoval said: "I am very excited to keep fighting in Chicago." Mendoza promised to "give it everything in the ring" to become champion.
Two points remain unresolved in the sources. The WBC refers to its flyweight championship; other outlets describe a title unified with the WBA, and the promoter has yet to say which belts are at stake. The sources also disagree on the start time, so the exact schedule will be confirmed with DAZN.
