vivo V80 Lite 5G goes on sale in Mexico from about $696
The phone has 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, and its battery claims rest on vivo's own figures and a Guinness record, with no independent tests yet.
vivo's newest midrange phone is now on sale in Mexico for about $696 (12,999 pesos, at 18.67 pesos per dollar on Oct. 23).
The Mexican version has 6 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage and comes in two colors, Rosa Óleo (a pearly pink) and Negro Cósmico (black).
Each phone includes six months of Google One with 100 GB. Activating it requires a payment method, which is charged when the trial ends.
The pitch is the 10,000 mAh battery, with fine print. On its Mexican product page, vivo says in a footnote that 10,000 mAh is the typical value. The guaranteed minimum is 9,800 mAh, a 2% gap that is common industry practice.
The other endurance and performance claims also come from the company. vivo says the battery keeps at least 80% of its capacity after 1,400 charge cycles, and it cites up to 850,000 points on AnTuTu, a popular benchmark, with the 6 GB and 256 GB configuration. It also touts a Guinness record for a 32-hour, 37-minute livestream, described in its global press release. The record is for testing an electronic product, not for how long a phone battery lasts. No independent tests have been published.
The rest of the spec sheet: a 6.83-inch OLED screen at 1.5K resolution and up to 120 Hz, a 50 MP Sony main camera, a 32 MP front camera, and IP68 and IP69 ratings against dust and water. Reverse charging reaches 7,135 mAh to other devices. vivo has not published the wired charging speed.
One note on memory: the "extended" 6 GB comes out of internal storage, as virtual memory, and can grow with a software update. It is not physical RAM.
The phone launched globally on Sept. 3 and reached Latin America on Thursday. In Colombia, Chile, Peru, Panama and Nicaragua, there is still no price or date.
