Atlético beat Man United 2-0, who finish with ten men
Pablo Barrios scored in the first minute and Ademola Lookman sealed it after Leny Yoro's red card; United are winless in five.
Atlético de Madrid beat Manchester United 2-0 on Tuesday at the Metropolitano, on Champions League matchday 2, according to ESPN. United played the closing minutes with ten men and are now winless in five matches in all competitions, with Michael Carrick on the bench.
The match opened almost without a pause. Pablo Barrios scored in the first minute, after a counterattack set up by Álex Baena and a shot that took a deflection on its way in. Before halftime, Johnny Cardoso put away a strike that the referee disallowed after a VAR review, for a prior handball by Marcos Llorente, according to Yahoo Sports.
United had their moment in the second half: Bruno Fernandes hit the crossbar in the 70th minute. Four minutes later, the referee sent off Leny Yoro, after a VAR review, for a foul on Jonathan David as the last defender. ESPN and Yahoo place the red card in the 74th minute; other outlets say the 75th.
With a man more, Atlético closed out the score. Ademola Lookman, who had come on as a substitute, scored in the 79th. The Madrid side had also hit the woodwork twice, with a Julián Álvarez shot in the 54th as the clearest.
