Mexican swimmer Daniel Saborío wins second bronze in Dakar

The 17-year-old from Monterrey finished the 200-meter freestyle in 1:49.68, his second podium at the Youth Olympic Games.

Mexican swimmer Daniel Saborío is back on the podium in Dakar. He finished third in the 200-meter freestyle at the Youth Olympic Games on Friday in 1:49.68, Mexico's national sports commission (CONADE) said.

Russia's Bogdan Toropkin won gold in 1:47.78, and Hungary's Olivér Pápai took silver in 1:48.43. Saborío, 17, from Monterrey, touched the wall a little more than a second behind the winner.

It is his second medal at these Games. On Tuesday, Nov. 3, he won bronze in the 400-meter freestyle in 3:52.72, Mexico's first swimming medal of the competition. His World Aquatics profile lists a 1:49.57 in the 200 free from August's Junior Pan Pacific Championships, just under Friday's time.

The two medals account for half of Mexico's four bronzes in Dakar. The others came from Fernanda García in the 50-meter butterfly and the Baseball5 team.

Saborío finished fifth in the 100 free, in 50.75, and medaled in his other two events. The Games run through Nov. 13.
