Two Mexicans, and Club América, are up for the Ballon d'Or
Julián Quiñones and Scarlett Camberos are on the shortlists for Monday's ceremony in London, and América Femenil is a club-of-the-year nominee.
The Ballon d'Or ceremony takes place Monday, Oct. 26 at the London Palladium. It starts at 14:00 Mexico City time, and Mexico has three candidacies: two players and one club.
Julián Quiñones, a striker for Saudi club Al-Qadsiah, is among the 30 nominees for the men's award. He is only the second Mexican on that list, after goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa in 2007.
Quiñones, 29, was born in Colombia and led the Saudi league with 33 goals, five more than Cristiano Ronaldo. He scored four at this year's World Cup, tying the record for a Mexican player in a single tournament.
Scarlett Camberos is the first Mexican woman nominated for the women's award.
Camberos, a 25-year-old forward for Club América, scored 27 goals and added seven assists last season. Her team won the Clausura 2026 title in Liga MX Femenil, Mexico's top women's league, along with the Campeón de Campeones and the Concacaf Women's Champions Cup, where she was named the tournament's best player.
América Femenil is also up for women's club of the year, against Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and OL Lyonnes. The men's club nominees are Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Bodø/Glimt, Flamengo and Paris Saint-Germain.
A nomination does not guarantee a spot among the finalists. The winners will be announced at Monday's ceremony.
