Haas signs Rafael Câmara for 2027 to replace Esteban Ocon
The 21-year-old Formula 2 leader and Ferrari junior will make his F1 debut on a multi-year deal; Oliver Bearman is still unconfirmed.
TGR Haas F1 Team has confirmed Rafael Câmara as its driver for the 2027 Formula 1 season on a multi-year contract, according to the team's statement. The Brazilian takes the seat Esteban Ocon leaves at the end of 2026.
Câmara is 21 and a member of the Ferrari driver academy; Ferrari supplies Haas with engines. He currently leads Formula 2 with Invicta Racing, seven points ahead of Red Bull junior Nikola Tsolov with two rounds left, Qatar and Abu Dhabi, according to PlanetF1. He won the FIA Formula 3 title in 2025.
This season in F2 he has three feature-race wins (Spain, Belgium and Azerbaijan), six podiums and five pole positions, the team said. In August he drove Haas's VF-25 at Portimão, in a test with cars from previous seasons.
Team principal Ayao Komatsu said that day Câmara showed them "more than just raw speed" and that he is excited to sign "such a young, amazing talent." Team owner Gene Haas said young drivers "are well prepared" and can make "an immediate impact." Câmara called the signing "an important step" in his career.
PlanetF1 describes him as the first rookie confirmed for the 2027 grid. Ocon announced in late September that he would leave Haas at the end of this season.
The other seat is still open. Oliver Bearman, also from Ferrari's academy, is expected to be Câmara's teammate, but Haas has not announced it, and Crash.net calls it only a near certainty. Neither the team nor the media have published how many years the contract runs.
