Mexico women beat Jamaica 3-1 to close FIFA window
An own goal, a goal by Maricarmen Reyes and a free kick by Ovalle gave El Tri a rematch win after Friday's 4-3 loss.
Mexico's women's national team beat Jamaica 3-1 on Tuesday at Estadio La Corregidora in Querétaro, closing its October FIFA window with a win. The result makes up for Friday's 4-3 loss in Aguascalientes, and the friendly series ends level at one win each, according to Mediotiempo.
Mexico went ahead early. Around the sixth minute came an own goal by Jamaica, the product of pressure from Maricarmen Reyes and Scarlett Camberos. Mediotiempo credits it to goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer, while Sports Illustrated México attributes it to Chantelle Swaby; the sources disagree and no official match report is available.
Reyes extended the lead around the 32nd minute, on a pass from Kimberly Rodríguez. In the second half, Ovalle made it 3-0 with a free kick in the 58th. Two minutes later, Kalyssa Van Zanten pulled one back for Jamaica, according to SI.
On Friday, Mexico had conceded four goals, with Jamaica ahead 2-0 before the 20th minute. In the rematch, the defense gave up a single goal.
Next comes the Concacaf W Championship, which awards places at the 2027 World Cup and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. SI places the match against Haiti on Nov. 28 in Dallas, but the date and venue have not been confirmed by the Mexican Football Federation or by Concacaf.
