Mexico women seek rematch with Jamaica in Querétaro

Coach Pedro López will use the second friendly to fix the defense that cracked in the 3-4 loss in Aguascalientes, six weeks before a World Cup qualifying quarterfinal.

Mexico's women's national team, known as El Tri, plays Jamaica again tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 13, at La Corregidora stadium in Querétaro. Kickoff is scheduled for 19:00 Mexico City time, according to Infobae. It is the second friendly and a rematch of Friday's game in Aguascalientes, where Mexico lost 3-4, according to the report on that match.

Coach Pedro López spoke after the defeat about learning from it. He told Bolavip that Jamaica showed "situations of reality" the team will face at the pre-World Cup tournament, and added: "Of course I don't like losing and I would rather win." The news agency distributed by Infobae adds that López wants to try out players and win, which calls for a sturdier back line. Khadija Shaw was Jamaica's standout.

Next is the Concacaf W Championship, the regional qualifier. On Nov. 28, Mexico plays Haiti in the quarterfinals, with a spot at the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil at stake. A day earlier, Jamaica faces Costa Rica for its own. Qualifying for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles requires a top-three finish in the tournament, according to the same agency.

The pressure is not new: Mexico has not played in a Women's World Cup since 2015, according to El Informador. With López in charge, the team won the 2023 Pan American Games and the 2023 and 2026 Central American Games. It reached the Gold Cup semifinals and lost to Brazil.

No starting lineup has been confirmed. Where the match will be shown is also unclear: Sopitas says it will stream on the national team's channels on YouTube, Facebook and TikTok, while other outlets announced TUDN and ViX for the first game. Lineup and broadcast are confirmed with the Mexican Football Federation.
