Ravens rule out Lamar Jackson; Huntley to start vs. Falcons
Coach Jesse Minter said the quarterback will miss Sunday night's game in Atlanta with an ankle injury. Pass rusher Trey Hendrickson is out too.
The Baltimore Ravens will play without quarterback Lamar Jackson on Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons. Head coach Jesse Minter announced on Friday that Jackson will not play because of an ankle problem, according to the Ravens' official website.
Jackson was hurt in the 24-18 win over the Titans in Week 4 and did not return in the second half, according to Yahoo Sports. He did not practice all week and will miss a game for the first time this season. Before the announcement, Minter had said Jackson did not need to practice to be available.
Tyler Huntley will start. According to ESPN, he won both of his starts as a fill-in last season, and with a win Baltimore would improve to 4-1. Minter backed him:
"We have a ton of confidence in him to play really well."
Jackson is not the only absence. The team also ruled out Trey Hendrickson, who is still not practicing after a finger procedure last week. Marlon Humphrey, on the other hand, returned to practice on Friday. The official site does not detail the status of Zay Flowers or Ronnie Stanley.
Some outlets say Jackson's absence could last more than one game. The club has only confirmed this Sunday, and that projection has no named source. The kickoff time in Mexico City does not appear in the sources, which only place the game in Sunday's night window.
