Real Madrid rally from 3-1 down to beat Roma 4-3 in Europe

Espí, Endrick and Rüdiger scored between the 83rd and 90th minutes, all from corners, to turn the game around in Champions League round 2.

Three goals in seven minutes, all from corner kicks, let Real Madrid turn the game around against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico. Madrid won 4-3 on Wednesday, Oct. 14, in the second round of the Champions League league phase, after trailing 3-1 in the 57th minute, according to ESPN.

Marten de Roon opened the scoring for the hosts in the 20th minute and Kylian Mbappé equalized in the 25th. In the second half, Donyell Malen put Roma ahead with a brace, in the 51st and 57th minutes. His second goal had first been ruled out for offside, but the video assistant referee (VAR) awarded it after a review.

The comeback came late. Carlos Espí pulled one back in the 83rd minute: goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini failed to hold a header from Endrick and Espí finished from point-blank range. Two minutes later, Endrick equalized with a header from an Arda Güler corner. In the 90th minute, Antonio Rüdiger, a former Roma player, finished another Güler delivery for the 4-3.

The minutes are ESPN's. COPE, a Spanish radio network, puts six of the seven goals one or two minutes earlier.

UEFA reports that it was Mbappé's 100th Champions League match and that Endrick was named player of the match. Round 2 produced 78 goals, a record, 46 of them on Wednesday. Roma are coached by José Mourinho, a former Madrid manager.

With the win, Madrid has six points after two matches and Roma has one, according to ESPN. The exact minutes will be confirmed against UEFA's official match report, which was not on the pages consulted.
