Al Pacino to receive SAG-AFTRA's Life Achievement Award

The actors' union will present it on Feb. 28, 2027 at the 33rd Actor Awards, which Netflix will stream live.

On Thursday, Oct. 15, SAG-AFTRA, the U.S. actors' union, chose Al Pacino for its Life Achievement Award. He will be the 62nd recipient, according to TheWrap.

The award will be presented on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2027 at the 33rd Actor Awards in Los Angeles, at the Shrine Auditorium & Expo Hall. According to AP and Milenio, a Mexican news outlet, Netflix will stream the ceremony live. Milenio adds that it will air at 19:00 in central Mexico (7 p.m.), while TheWrap does not mention the broadcast.

Pacino, 86, has more than six decades of work in film, television and theater, according to AP. Sean Astin, the union's president, said, according to TheWrap, that like so many actors he has spent his life admiring Pacino, "a force of nature." TheWrap and AP also report that Pacino said he wondered and wandered most of his life but always felt at home with a script and his fellow actors.

A career full of awards

He won the Oscar for best actor in 1992 for Scent of a Woman and rose to fame with The Godfather, from 1972. He also has two Tony Awards and two Emmys. His two Actor Awards were for television, for Angels in America and You Don't Know Jack. In film he has a single individual nomination for that award, for The Irishman (2020), according to TheWrap.

He was previously honored with the American Film Institute's AFI Life Achievement Award, the Kennedy Center Honors and the Golden Globes' Cecil B. DeMille Award. Recent recipients of the union's award include Harrison Ford, Jane Fonda, Barbra Streisand, Helen Mirren, Robert De Niro and Morgan Freeman.

The awards were called the SAG Awards when they began in 1995 and were renamed last year. The broadcast time is still to be confirmed with the union's announcement.
