Prime Video renews "Carrie" for a second season
The streamer confirmed Thursday that Mike Flanagan's Stephen King series will return, two weeks after its eight episodes premiered.
Prime Video has renewed "Carrie" for a second season, just two weeks after all eight episodes of the first debuted on Oct. 7. The announcement came Thursday.
Mike Flanagan stays on as showrunner and executive producer, and Stephen King, who wrote the 1974 novel, keeps his executive producer credit. The streamer teased "new revelations, major character arcs and plenty of shocking twists."
Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, praised the direction he and King have in mind for the story and said the series resonates with female viewers.
There is no premiere date or episode count yet.
Prime Video says the series debuted in first place on its internal chart in more than 100 countries. The figure comes from the streamer itself, which does not release viewing numbers, so it is not an independent measurement.
The show also changes the novel's ending. In the season finale, Carrie survives and joins other girls with telekinetic powers, leaving the story open to continue. Summer H. Howell plays Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan her mother, Margaret.
The first season is streaming in full on Prime Video since its Oct. 7 premiere.
