EA Sports announces Fight Night's return after 15 years
The boxing series is back, announced in a post on X with no platforms, date or price. Its last entry came out in 2011.
EA Sports has confirmed that Fight Night is coming back. The announcement came Tuesday on the @EASPORTSFN account on X, in a one-line message to "those who stayed in our corner," the fans who have waited all this time.
There are no platforms, release date, price or gameplay details. The image shows red gloves on an empty ring, and the account, opened Oct. 13, sums the message up as "Back into the ring" and notes that the ESRB rating is pending.
It is the first Fight Night announced since Fight Night Champion in 2011.
In its first hour the post passed 20 000 likes and drew around 600 000 views, according to Inven Global. The EA Sports and Electronic Arts accounts shared it.
The series went dormant in the early 2010s. EA CEO Andrew Wilson explained at the time that much of the team moved to the UFC series, which is still going.
The return was not entirely unexpected. Insider Gaming reported in September, as an exclusive, that the original plans to revive the series had been canceled about a year ago. Since then EA has changed hands: the buying group is led by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, and the kingdom has a strong presence in boxing.
EA has not said whether there will be a PlayStation, Xbox or PC version. Announcements without details have precedents: College Basketball was announced that way and never shipped, and College Football, which returned in 2021, took about three years to become College Football 25. On that basis, Shacknews calculates Fight Night will also take a while to arrive.
