Mexico's Camberos places 21st in women's Ballon d'Or
Club America Femenil forward Scarlett Camberos, the first Mexican nominee, ranked between France's Selma Bacha and Japan's Manaka Matsukubo at the London gala.
Scarlett Camberos finished 21st in the 2026 women's Ballon d'Or. The award's official site revealed her spot at Monday's gala in London, when places 30 through 11 were announced.
Camberos, a 25-year-old forward and captain of Club America Femenil in Mexico's Liga MX Femenil, ranked between France defender Selma Bacha of OL Lyonnes (20th) and Japan midfielder Manaka Matsukubo of Chelsea (22nd). The top ten are announced later and do not include her.
She is the first Mexican among the 30 nominees.
Camberos arrived at the ceremony after a season in which America won the Clausura 2026 title, the Campeón de Campeones and the CONCACAF W Champions Cup, where she was named the tournament's best player. She started her career at the UC Irvine Anteaters, a U.S. college team, before playing in Mexico.
America is also up for best women's club, in a category that includes Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and OL Lyonnes. It is awarded at the same ceremony.
