Foster drops Navarrete twice, unifies super featherweight
The American won a unanimous decision in San Antonio and left the Mexican without his WBO and IBF belts.
O'Shaquie Foster beat Emanuel "Vaquero" Navarrete by unanimous decision on Saturday at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio and now holds the WBC, WBO and IBF super featherweight titles.
Navarrete, of Mexico, entered as the WBO and IBF champion. Foster came in defending the WBC belt. The scorecards read 118-108, 118-108 and 115-111, all for the American.
Foster put Navarrete on the canvas twice, both times in the 12th round.
CompuBox, the punch-tracking service, backs up the judges: Foster landed 157 punches to Navarrete's 99.
Foster moves to 26-3 with 12 knockouts. Navarrete falls to 40-3-1 with 33.
Days before the fight, Navarrete had called Foster an elusive opponent and named the first two rounds as the key to his plan. Afterward he conceded that it comes down to styles, and that Foster's was "better" than his.
Foster has his sights on one more step. "I want to become undisputed. That's my dream," he said.
