Mexico coach Rafa Márquez visits Tigres on Liga MX club tour
The national team coach watched Tigres train a day after visiting Rayados, with a Nations League series against Jamaica next.
Rafael Márquez, head coach of Mexico's national team, visited Tigres' training center, the Centro de Entrenamiento Tigre, on Thursday, Oct. 15, at around 9:00 a.m., according to Mediotiempo, a Mexican sports outlet. He greeted the squad, chatted with Tigres coach Víctor Manuel Vucetich and watched practice from the side of the field.
Club president Carlos Emilio González received him. Mediotiempo names Enrique Nieto, who heads national teams for the federation, and Duilio Davino, sporting director of the senior team, as companions. Infobae does not mention anyone accompanying him.
The day before he was at El Barrial, the Monterrey club Rayados' base, to meet coach Matías Almeyda. He had also been to Chivas, Atlas and América, according to Excélsior. On Oct. 14, Davino warned that the tour will not reach every club: "This year we will not have time to visit all the teams."
Next up is the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinal series against Jamaica. The second leg is Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 20:30 local time, at Estadio BBVA in Monterrey, according to Publimetro. The first leg, in Kingston, has no official date: only tentative ones. The winner plays the Final Four, planned for March 2027, according to Infobae.
No outlet consulted reports that Márquez named any Tigres player after the visit, and the squad list for the series does not exist yet.
