Raúl Jiménez to have knee surgery, out until January

Wolves said the ligament injury did not respond to treatment; the Mexico striker goes under the knife on Friday in London.

Wolverhampton Wanderers confirmed on Oct. 14 that Raúl Jiménez will have surgery on his left knee this Friday, Oct. 16, in London, according to the club's statement. The Mexico striker is not expected to play again this year.

The injury is to the medial collateral ligament and happened about four weeks ago, in a match against Everton. The club first treated it without surgery, but the knee did not progress as hoped. The operation reattaches the ligament to the tibia, with no need for a full reconstruction, according to the statement.

Rehabilitation will take about three months and his return is expected in January 2027, with no exact date. Wolves say muscle work starts two weeks after the operation and that full weight-bearing would come around the fourth week.

For the Mexican national team, the absence matters in November. According to Infobae, Jiménez will miss Mexico's Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal against Jamaica. The Mexican Football Federation has not published its call-up list.

The player responded on Instagram, in a message Infobae quotes: "This doesn't stop me, it only prepares me to come back stronger." He added that he will take it "one day at a time, with patience, discipline" and the same mindset as always.

His exact return date remains unknown and will depend on how his recovery goes after the operation.
