Netflix names Stranger Things spinoff Other Worlds, due in 2028

The live-action prequel is set in the '50s, with Kate Trefry as showrunner and Joe Wright directing the first three episodes.

The live-action Stranger Things spinoff finally has a name: *Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure*. Netflix announced the title on Friday on its Tudum site and said the series will arrive in 2028.

The story goes back to the '50s, long before anything seen in Hawkins, Indiana, and even before the stage play *Stranger Things: The First Shadow*, set in 1959. The characters and plot are new.

Kate Trefry, a writer on the original series, will serve as showrunner and co-creator. Joe Wright will direct the first three episodes and is an executive producer. Filming will take place in New Mexico, and casting has not begun.

"It's my insane honor and privilege to be bringing this new chapter of Stranger Things to life alongside them," Trefry said, referring to the show's creators.

Netflix has had the spinoff and the play in the works since 2022. The play has since opened; the series had no title or date until now. The franchise also includes an animated series, *Stranger Things: Tales from '85*.

Fans should not expect the familiar characters. The project opens a different era of the same universe. The cast and episode count have not been announced.
