Revenge of the Charro Negro opens in Mexican theaters Oct. 22
The eighth animated film in Mexico's Las Leyendas franchise has been on presale at Cinépolis and Cinemex since Oct. 15.
"La venganza del Charro Negro" ("The Revenge of the Charro Negro"), the eighth film in Mexico's animated Las Leyendas franchise, opens in theaters across the country on Thursday, Oct. 22. Ánima Estudios produced it and Videocine distributes it, according to the listing on SensaCine México, which gives a running time of 1 hour 34 minutes and credits Marvick Eduardo Núñez Aguilera as director.
Ticket presales opened Oct. 15 at Cinépolis and Cinemex, Mexico's two largest cinema chains, according to an announcement from both that La Crónica de Hoy picked up. Imagen Radio lists it in its guide to releases for Oct. 19 to 25, which counts six films in theaters.
In the story, the Charro Negro, a figure from Mexican folklore, returns to take revenge on Leo San Juan and brings back creatures and legends the protagonist already faced in earlier films. This time the target is more personal, his brother Nando, and Leo has to gather his friends to stop the plan. Erick Elías again voices the Charro Negro, according to SensaCine. Paloma y Nacho adds that Benny Emmanuel voices Leo and Emilio Treviño voices Nando.
The franchise began in 2007 with "La leyenda de la Nahuala," and this is the first entry without the word "leyenda" (legend) in its title, according to that same source. Paloma y Nacho also reports that the film is in the program of the 24th Morelia International Film Festival, without giving a date or venue for the screening.
