Brewers sweep Dodgers and return to the World Series

Milwaukee came back from a 4-0 deficit in Game 4 to win the NLCS; the World Series opens Oct. 23.

The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) at Dodger Stadium, completing a 4-0 sweep and reaching the World Series for the first time in 44 years, according to MLB.com. In 1982 they got there as an American League team: this is their first National League pennant.

The Dodgers jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Shohei Ohtani hit a three-run homer in the second inning off reliever Dustin May. Milwaukee, which went with a bullpen game and Shane Drohan as the opener, did not unravel.

The comeback began in the fourth inning, with a double by William Contreras and another by Jake Bauers, and the score closed to 4-2. In the fifth, a single by David Hamilton drove in Sal Frelick, who had stolen a base. Bauers then drew a bases-loaded walk to tie it 4-4. Tyler Glasnow left the game after 4⅓ innings.

In the sixth, Garrett Mitchell homered off Tanner Scott to put Milwaukee up 5-4. Hamilton added another home run in the ninth. Aaron Ashby escaped two jams, in the seventh and the eighth, with runners in scoring position, and got the final out when Kiké Hernández lined to Jackson Chourio in left field.

The Dodgers, the defending champions, are out without winning a game. MLB.com describes it as the first time a club has swept the team that had swept it a year earlier: the Dodgers beat Milwaukee 4-0 in the 2025 NLCS. The series opened with our Game 1 preview, and Milwaukee won that game 2-1. Game 3, on Wednesday, was a 6-2 win for the Brewers.

Milwaukee will open the World Series at home on Oct. 23, on FOX. The opponent comes out of the American League Championship Series, where Cleveland leads Tampa Bay 2-1 with Game 4 still to be played.
