Mexico U-15 beats Hungary 3-1 in World Cup debut
Marcelo Villarreal scored first and Aaron Muñoz added two goals in Mexico's opener in Group H, played in Baku.
Mexico's under-15 team beat Hungary 3-1 in its first match at the FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan. It was El Tri's opener in Group H.
Marcelo Villarreal put Mexico ahead in the 15th minute off a counterattack. Aaron Muñoz then scored twice, in the 25th and 33rd minutes, both after Hungarian mistakes at the back.
Kenez Speier pulled one back for Hungary from the penalty spot in the 39th.
Matches last 40 minutes, two halves of 20, with eight players a side. The tournament is new and brings together 189 national teams in 32 groups, so its scorelines are not comparable to those of full-sized soccer.
Group H has six teams: Mexico, Hungary, Dominica, Ethiopia, Malaysia and Syria. The qualifying stage, four or five games per group, sets the tier, from A to F, each team plays in for the rest of the tournament. Only Tier A competes for the title.
Mexico's next opponent is Dominica, which lost 3-1 to Malaysia in its opener.
